Tennessee Getaway

I love love love it when Matt and I are able to getaway from the madness. Even if it is only for a few days. This weekend, we took a quick trip up to Tennessee.

On our way up to Pigeon Forge, we stopped at the Lost Sea Cave. This cave is so amazing, with a pretty big lake inside the cave. We walked through the cave and even rode a boat onto the lake. The cave was used by Native Americans and new settlers as shelter, and even a bar. In the sixties, the cave was excavated for tourist to enter. While building stairs and lights, they found dance floors, a bar, and a moonshine maker. Our guide also told us that in the fifties, this cave had been set up as a fall-out shelter. They stored enough food for thousands of people. They still had about fifty boxes of saltine crackers down there.

Here we are taking the tunnel down into the cave

The inside of the cave was very interesting

Here is a very bad picture of the lake. It was very dark down there

Finally we made it to Pigeon Forge. We took full advantage of our one full day there. First item up is zip lining in the smokies. We were able to zip line in St. Lucia a few years ago, and we had so much fun we decided to do it again.

The course was pretty long, and so much fun.
Here is my video from one of my zips.

and here are few more photos...

After a morning of fun in the trees, we headed over to Cades Cove. Cades Cove is a beautiful ten mile drive through the Smokey Mtns. Along the path, there are old churches and houses from the first settlers in the area. The view is so gorgeous, and seeing how people lived way back when is so interesting. I can definitely see why they settled here.

Well another great ending to a fabulous weekend.

They Really Do Listen

As I am in the kitchen, I over hear my girls playing in the next room. Ella is telling Wren that 'this' is little Jesus on the cross. I step in to see what 'this' is, and Ella is playing with a game piece from candy land.

It is really amazing to me how much kids really hear and take in.

As we learned this week in VBS, God's word is true.

Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Party Time!

Today we celebrated Ella and Wren's birthday. Four, two, and one-hundred are the lucky numbers. Ella is four, Wren is two, and the temperature outside is one-hundred degrees. But, we celebrated outside just the same. I am sure the kids were having a blast in the slip-n-slide, but we adults were melting in the sun. Although the temp was hot, we still had a really great time sharing this memory with great friends and family. Maybe next year, we will plan something inside?

The Zoo

Today my mom treated all of us to a trip to the zoo to celebrate the girls birthday. It was nice and hot, but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying our day. We picked a great time to visit, because there were a lot of new babies out to play. We saw a baby warthog, gorilla, and panda. They were so much fun to watch. Here are a few photos of our day.
